Bodymind Float Center opened its doors on Park Ave in 2013, offering floatation therapy and dry salt therapy. We operate a variety of float tanks, including two couple's float tanks and two open float pools. Owners David and Pattie are professional violinists who live in the Highland Park neighborhood.
What is Floating?
Inside the float tank, eight hundred pounds of pharmaceutical-grade Epsom salt is dissolved in ten inches of water warmed to skin temperature. Like the Dead Sea, this extremely dense solution enables people of all body types to float effortlessly.
The float tank is dark and quiet, greatly reducing sensory stimulation. This unique environment frees the brain from the bulk of its processing duties and prompts the production of theta waves.
The nearly universal response to floating is one of profound relaxation and a sense of well-being, even joy.
The float tank offers a safe haven in which to escape from the buzz of everyday life, focus on healing and explore different states of consciousness. Floating has many applications:
pain management, including back and neck aches, migraines, muscle and joint soreness
stress management, recovery from addiction, and PTSD
athletic recovery and performance visualization
relief from discomforts of pregnancy
help with sleep disorders
spiritual discovery and meditation
enhanced creativity and super-learning.
Salt therapy is a safe and deeply relaxing way to address many respiratory ailments such as:
seasonal allergies
asthma
bronchitis
sinusitis
cystic fibrosis.
Salt is a powerful sterilizer and anti-inflammatory agent. These characteristics are the basis of folk remedies such as gargling with salt water, the use of neti-pots, visiting salt caves and spending time by the sea.
Our state-of-the-art generator grinds pharmaceutical-grade sodium chloride into micro-particles from 1 to 10 micrometers in size and disperses them into the air. Although nothing is felt, particles bigger than 5 micrometers remain in the nose and throat, and smaller particles settle deep into the lungs. It kills bacteria and draws moisture from the bronchioles. Mucous thins, sinuses drain and breathing becomes easier.

We believe being a local business isn’t just about providing the best service possible; it is about giving back to the community in ways big and small. Rochester has been incredibly kind to us. Here are a few of the ways we’ve tried to give back.
Climate Solutions Accelerator
Bodymind Float Center is a proud member organization of Climate Solutions Accelerator. Our 2020 Float it Forward Fundraiser raised $3000 in just 3 days. 100% of our sales was given to this local non- profit which is working towards eliminating greenhouse gas emissions in our region. In 2022, we raised another $3,000!
Floats for Coats (pictured)
Through a partnership with House of Mercy, we provided 50 EMPWR (Empower) coats which were distributed to homeless persons in Rochester. The EMPWR coat is a water-resistant jacket, which can transform into a sleeping bag, or be worn as an over-the-shoulder bag when not in use.
Warrior Salute Collaboration:
Our partnership with CDS Monarch’s Warrior Salute began with a pilot study on the effects of floating on PTSD, and continues as a program of donated and steeply discounted floats for the veterans of Warrior Salute. You can learn more about the program here.
Fibromyalgia Discount Program:
Initiated as an international pilot study, this evolved into a program of free and discounted floats for those diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. We have enrolled over 400 participants. Learn more about the program here. Discounts are listed on our pricing page.
Supporting the Arts
We display the work of local artists, including Carl Chiarenza, a major figure in the history of art photography, and the multi-talented Melissa Matson, whose fabric art floats and flows along our walls. We commissioned Ben Moriconi to make the “Salt Goddess” and “Float Goddess” images which adorn our shop and are available on gift certificates.
Other Charitable Donations
We make dozens of donations annually, including to the Rochester Broadway Theater League, Make a Wish Foundation, No One Left Behind, Kidney Walk, Teens Living with Cancer, Autism Up, and Rochester's Childfirst Network.
